The Great Baseball Ride: Mountains Gandalf, Mountains!

“There are far better things ahead than the ones we leave behind.”

C.S. Lewis

Mile by mile, we get closer and closer to home. Our latest Super 8 – Missoula stay was fine.  This one was a bit more dated than others we’d stayed at, but it was nice enough.

Montana has mountains after mountains. As soon as you think the mountains are over, there’s more mountains and since we did nothing but drive today, we were especially thankful for the views.

We woke to a healthy day of driving ahead of us.  We were trying to make time so we could get to the Mount Rushmore/Deadwood area.  We were on the road for 11 ½ hours plus we lost an hour going from Pacific to Mountain time.  We were certainly exhuasted, and true to recent form, we hadn’t eaten dinner when we arrived at our overnight spot.

Our overnight ended up being Spearfish, SD, and that late, nothing was open in town except a 24 hour diner (we weren’t about to do a sit down), and Taco Bell.  Taco Bell it is. I never feel happy after eating Taco Bell; NEVER.

Not Spearfish

Soren was a bit of pistol today, and we Keke and I were happy to call it as soon as we could.  We stayed at the Travelodge in Spearfish, and while the decor was dated, the staff was nice, the hotel was well kept, and the beds were comfortable.  This is our second stay at a Travelodge on this trip, and I would describe them as if your grandma bought a house, never remodeled it, but kept the original decor in impeccable shape.  Good enough for us.
